About the Charity
The Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen is an incredible charity that has provided free, nutritious meals for homeless individuals and families, and both the working and non-working poor in the New Haven area since 2004. Each night, DESK provides a hot evening meal and bagged lunches for the working and non-working poor and school-aged kids, weekly food pantry bags, as well as provides an emergency food bank for those in crisis.
The Downtown Evening Soup Kitchen serves well over 100,000 evening meals each year, as well as more than 60,000 pantry food bags and 18,000 bagged lunches for those in need. DESK also provides a weekly pet food pantry, which includes both food and toys for dogs and cats. DESK is constantly looking for volunteers to participate in their various meal services. They provide both community service for educational requirements, and court appointed or alternative incarceration community service.
