Smaller incisions make happier breast implant patients
Have you been seriously considering breast implants? Did you know that you not only have a choice of the type of implant you prefer (silicone or saline), but your plastic surgeon also has a choice between the traditional implant delivery method of using their fingers for insertion or a NEWER technique using the Keller Funnel 2, a device that gently slips a silicone implant into place? This allows the surgeon to place the implant gently and with very little force, and with a much smaller incision (about half the size of a traditional scar).
In addition, this “No Touch” technique reduces the risk of bacterial contamination by minimizing the amount of contact between the implant and the skin, lowering your risk of developing capsular contracture. Deborah Pan, MD says, “I have been using the Keller Funnel for over three years and was the first surgeon in this greater New Haven area to adopt its use. My patients thoroughly enjoy what looks like an impossibly small incision size, as well as decreased risk of contracture.” The Keller funnel is compatible with Mentor, Natrelle (Allergan) and Sientra silicone implants.
When you are at your consultation with your physician, think about the surgery itself. Being more educated about the procedure will mean a better choice in deciding who will perform your surgery. This is just one more question to arm yourself with when interviewing plastic surgeons to determine the most qualified provider for your procedure. Finding a surgeon who is experienced with the Keller funnel translates to a lower complication rate and a smaller scar. Now who wouldn’t like that?
