It’s easier today to love your looks!
Loving your appearance has become easier and more appealing to both men and women, as reported by the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) in their latest findings. Although women comprise the majority of cosmetic patients, men are starting to develop more interest and are acting on it. Also, people between the ages of 40-54 are the most likely to have a cosmetic procedure in 2019.
Improving our body image and self esteem is a leading area of rapid growth. This mostly focuses on lifting and tightening body areas after weight loss, pregnancy, or normal aging. These include surgical options like tummy tucks and breast lifts or reductions, as well as some nonsurgical procedures that have grown in popularity, such as CoolSculpting. However, the most popular procedure, year after year, is breast enhancement with implants.
Are you looking to love your nose? The third most popular surgery for both men and women are nose jobs, or rhinoplasty. There were over 200,000 done in the past year. And then rounding out the top six surgical procedures this past year include liposuction, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) and a facelift.
If surgery is not for you, you’re in luck. The newest surge has been non-invasive facial and neck treatments such as Ultherapy, Fractora, CoolSculpting and Kybella. With combinations of these treatments, one can prevent the need for surgical face or neck lift surgery, thereby defying time and gravity without the knife.
If we include injectables like Botox, Dysport, Restylane and Juvederm, these procedures dominate the cosmetic market. Longer lasting products like Sculptra and Bellafill have been a positive addition, as has lip fillers. “What is really interesting is that the old idea of keeping these surgical and nonsurgical procedures a secret is no longer the case, says Javier Davila, MD. “It has widely entered the mainstream and is embraced by most men and women.”
